ESC102- Design of Cooling Suit for Fire Fighters

The primary project for second phase of the Engineering Design challenge in ESC102 course(which is aimed to improve Engineering Design experience and skills) was to present an effective and Optimal detailed design based on the requirements being addressed in the given RFP( Request for Proposal). Our group was responsible for finding a suit that relieves the heat stress in firefighters which is caused by their own metabolic heat dissipation in protective clothing during mission.

Existing solutions only focus on rehabilitation and isolation from the heat dissipated from the flame. First, our group thought of implementing full-body coolant circulation and this seemed feasible to be produced however the proposed design was not portable. Portability was among the priorities indicated in the RFP. Hence, we diverged from our current thoughts and started with a new design that was simpler, more effective and relatively much more portable with lower cost. We then presented the final design to various experts in the fields of materials engineering, Nanotechnology and representatives from different organiztions.

The detailed description of the Engineering Design process and decisions made is included in the attached abstract.
